In this post, we take a look at the top 10 most expensive cities in the US with the highest rental prices for one bedroom apartments as of January 2023. As of today, the national index for renting one-bedroom apartments in the US has dropped to $1490 per month. For two-bedroom apartments, the national index is $1,820 per month as of January 2023.

In the updated ranking of the most expensive cities in the US, New York still holds the lead. The average rental price for a one-bedroom apartment in New York is $3,690 (+13.20% year-on-year, from January 2022 to January 2023). Second place went to Boston, where median rent for a one-bedroom apartment increased 11.80% year-on-year to $3,040 per month. Third place was taken by San Francisco (Average $2,950 for a one-bedroom apartment), which secured the status of the most expensive city in the state of California.
