As of today, the national index for renting one-bedroom apartments in the US has dropped to $1490 per month. For two-bedroom apartments, the national index is $1,820 per month as of January 2023.

In the updated ranking of the most expensive cities in the US, New York still holds the lead. The average rental price for a one-bedroom apartment in New York is $3,690 (+13.20% year-on-year, from January 2022 to January 2023). Second place went to Boston, where median rent for a one-bedroom apartment increased 11.80% year-on-year to $3,040 per month. Third place was taken by San Francisco (Average $2,950 for a one-bedroom apartment), which secured the status of the most expensive city in the state of California.
